Call for world leaders to reconsider use

Marine safety experts have renewed their call for World Leaders to reconsider the use of armed guards onboard commercial ships following the tragic shooting of Indian fishermen by Italian Marines.
 
Last week Italian Marines guarding the oil tanker, the Enrica Lexie, shot dead two Indian fishermen in the Indian Ocean they mistakenly believed were pirates. 

The deaths come just days before World leaders are due to discuss the issue of sea piracy at the London Conference on Somalia.

 

Boot Düsseldorf 21 – 29 January 2012

The Adagio 58 Europa, an elegant and luxurious boat, will be showcased at the Boot Düsseldorf trade show taking place from 21 – 29 January 2012

Paris, France, 19 December, 2011 – Adagio, a Koejac Yachting company that began building trawlers in 2005, is proud to announce the nomination of the Adagio 58 Europa in the Displacement Yacht category, as part of the “European Powerboat of the Year” awards. The jury will announce the winner of this international prize in January at the annual awards evening held at the Boot Düsseldorf trade show.

The international “European Powerboat of the Year” award encompasses five categories. The jury picks 25 of the best new trawlers presented that year, of which they judge safety standards, boat handling, finishes, layout and price to performance ratio.

Unexploded mine in 1,118 metres of water

Ramora UK, a leading global provider of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) services and related training, played a key role in helping oil and gas operator Chevron North Sea Ltd deal with an unexploded mine found at a depth of 1118 metres (3667ft).
 
Of World War II vintage, the British Mk IV Buoyant Mine was of the classic spherical design with protruding electrical switch horns, familiar from so many films and documentaries, and weighed 1200 lbs in total with a NEQ (net explosive quantity) of 500lbs.

 

 

Camper & Nicholsons’ Cesme Marina won “Best Marina of the Year” at the “Golden Anchor Awards” in Istanbul on Saturday 12th November

The marina is thrilled to have received the acknowledgement, after only one year of operation.  Cesme won the award ahead of eight other marinas due to its high-specification construction, use of the latest technology and delivery of the highest standard of facilities and services for its customers.
 
The annual Turkish “Yachting Oscars”, now in their sixth year, see marine companies nominated across several categories, including “Port and Marina Management” with sub categories including “Best Port Management” and “Best Marina Management”. Cesme Marina overcame competition from a shortlist that included MarinTurk Pendik Marina, Milta Bodrum Marina, Netsel Marmaris Marina, and Port Göcek Marina to win the “Best Marina” title.

Three prestigious awards received at METS

C A Clase, the UK’s leading distributor of marine electronics for the leisure and commercial marine markets, received three prestigious awards during this year’s METS from leading manufacturer, KVH. On Monday 14th November, C A Clase received the ‘Biggest Total Turnover in 2011’ accolade at the company’s annual distributor awards, for the third year in a row. The company was also recognised for ‘The Most TracVision Products Sold’ and ‘The Largest Airtime Revenue.’
