Suzuki is motoring into 2012 with the announcement of its sponsorship of The Powerboat and RIB Show

The free-to-visit event, which will be held at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth from May 11 to 13, is expected to attract more than 80,000 people. Among the attractions will be a wide selection of RIBs, powerboats and associated products for sale, the opportunity to trial boats on the open water and free Suzuki RIB rides.

Gareth Lumsdaine, Sales and Marketing Manager for Suzuki GB’s Marine Division, said:

“Suzuki is proud to sponsor The Powerboat and RIB Show in this very exciting year of change and we are looking forward to a great show. It has always been a fantastic event and fits perfectly with our exhibition strategy of focusing on shows where customers can get out on the water and try our range of lightweight and fuel-efficient four stroke outboard motors.”

RSrnYC win Solent Inter-Club Masters Team Race Regatta

The Royal Southern Yacht Club (RSrnYC) team won the Solent Inter-Club Masters' Team Race Regatta held at Queen Mary Sailing Club, Middlesex on Sunday 13th November.

The teams were greeted with lovely autumn sunshine and a 6-8 knots SE wind. Racing took place in J80's and two full round robins were sailed as the four teams sailed against each other twice.

The two Royal Southern boats remained unbeaten until their final race of the regatta, when it appeared that fatigue had begun to set in, and they lost against the Cowes Darings' fleet team.

The London Regatta 2011, London’s biggest annual sailing event, was a huge success at Greenwich Yacht Club

On Sunday 9 October the annual test closure of the Thames Barrier saw 90 dinghies in seven classes of boats sailing on a tide-free River Thames.

Sailors aged from 10 to over 60 represented eight London-based sailing clubs and competed together for over three hours while the Barrier was closed.

Racing took place on three courses marked out between the Thames Barrier and the O2 entertainment centre. Steady wind conditions in the morning enabled some fast and exciting sailing.

London’s biggest dinghy racing event returns to Greenwich Yacht Club on Sunday 9 October for the sixth time

The annual test closure of the Thames Barrier will create non-tidal conditions on the up-river side towards London. This temporary removal of the tide flowing provides a rare occasion for dinghy sailors to compete in open water on the River Thames without needing special qualifications or tidal water experience.

The London Regatta is a partnership between the RYA, RYA Sailability, Greenwich Yacht Club and the London Nautical School. Over 60 boats of various types representing sailing clubs across the capital will take part.

Steve Mitchell, RYA Regional Development Officer for London and Thames Valley said: “This is a unique event in London, offering the opportunity for disabled and able-bodied sailors to compete together on equal terms.”

A spectacle of sail!

From racing yachts and catamarans to working boats and traditional schooners, more than four hundred types of watercraft will take to the riverways and ocean waves that surround the bustling South Cornish port town of Falmouth between August 6th and August 14th.

Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week (www.falmouthweek.co.uk) is the largest mainland port regatta in the UK and features a packed schedule of action and entertainment both on and off the water including live music (headlined this year by UK rapper Tinchy Stryder), a Red Arrows display, fancy dress carnival, Caribbean night, bike stunt display from the Animal Team and fireworks finale.

Overlooking the third deepest natural harbour in the world and surrounded by the picturesque beauty of the Carrick Roads waterways, Roseland Peninsula and South Cornish coastline, Falmouth’s amphitheatre-like setting is the ideal locale for visitors to enjoy the spectacle.
