METS Trade Show 15th – 17th November 2011 Stand 03.504

Marine electronics specialist Scanstrut Ltd will be launching an exciting new product at this year’s METS event – the innovative Waterproof iPad Case. Developed in response to evolving demands from marine professionals and boating enthusiasts, the Waterproof iPad Case is expected to be a big hit at METS and beyond.

Already shortlisted for a DAME Award, the Waterproof iPad Case was designed because of the increasing number of boat owners that take iPads to sea in order to use them with chartplotters, propulsion systems and on board entertainment.

It is a fully IP66/IP67 waterproof and shockproof enclosure, with models available to fit both the iPad 1 and iPad 2.

Full touchscreen usability is available at all times, as are volume, on/off and home buttons, and both front and rear camera functionality is provided for the iPad 2.

First solar-powered yacht with towing kite

The first solar-powered yacht with towing kite propulsion looks set to revolutionise the cruising market after SolarWaterWorld AG signed a deal with SkySails GmBH last month.

What makes this new hybrid yacht so different is that it combines solar electricity and wind power – making it emission and vibration free.

SkySails says the towing kite generates up to 25 times more power per square metre of sail area than a conventional sailing yacht. And this, they say, means higher speeds can be achieved.

Revolutionary ‘peel and stick’ patch gives opportunity to save money and repair, rather than replace, damaged equipment

Developed in the USA, Tear-Aid is a transparent and watertight patch which can be used to repair tears and holes in sails, kite bladders, diving suits and much more.

Tear-Aid also holds air under pressure, even when stretched or compressed, making it ideal for repairs on inflatable tubes and dinghies, as well as RIBs. The flexible and adaptable patch remains adhesive in both high and low temperatures, making it suitable for year-round use.

Fraser Henderson, managing director of Haywood Outdoor Products, a major distributor of Tear-Aid in the UK, explains: “There are two types of patch available – an all-purpose fabric patch and a specific version for vinyl products. Between them, they can repair tears and holes in almost anything.”

Gill add relaxed chunky knitwear to their winter line-up

Both men’s and women’s styles are available in a selection of contemporary shades: Dusky Pink and Loganberry for Women, Birch and Navy for Men. The Women’s style features a cosy shawl style collar with button detailing, whilst the Men’s style features a zip neck - useful for cooling ventilation, if needed.
