Following a successful partnership in 2009, Cowes Week Limited and Solent Productions - a Southampton Solent University Enterprise Centre – have teamed up again for the 2010 regatta. Media students at Southampton Solent University will gain valuable hands-on experience through the provision of television production and broadcast support to one of the most high profile events in the yachting calendar.
Commenting on this initiative, Trevor Thorne, Director of the Marketing & Communications Service at Southampton Solent University, said: “Our strengths in media and maritime education combine to make us a natural choice for providing television production and broadcast support at this iconic event. The University is proud to be associated with Cowes Week.”
The support provided by the University will provide media students with the chance to work as professional suppliers of sports programming alongside industry experts and Solent graduates. Solent Productions, the university's dedicated media production centre, will provide the students with its high spec equipment to film the week's action - providing instant and comprehensive footage for TV networks across the globe, as well as for the event's official website.
Michelle Warner, Sales & Marketing Director at Cowes Week Limited, commented: “In 2009 Solent Productions provided us with outstanding support and media content. We are delighted to further our relationship with the University this year and provide even more opportunities for students to gain some valuable hands-on experience”.
Daily VNRs will be available for broadcasters to download from the Cowes Week website throughout the event. VNR material from the 2009 event is also currently available. www.cowesweek.co.uk.
