Standard Horizon has been announced as the winner of the Consumer Electronics & Software Category within the NMMA Innovation Awards at The Miami International Boat Show. 

Their new GX2100E (or Matrix, as it is known in the US), is a combined Class D VHF DSC transceiver with AIS reception and display.

The judges from the National Marine Manufacturers Association quoted, ‘This compact, affordable
Combination of Class D VHF and AIS brings two important safety and communication features into the hands of the average boater.”

National Boat Shows (NBS) is delighted to announce that Tullett Prebon is to continue its sponsorship of the London International Boat Show for a further three years. 

The UK-listed global inter-dealer broker (IDB), which sponsored the Show for the first time in January, has committed to being the title sponsor of the next three London Shows.  The events, from 2011 to 2013, will continue to be known as the Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show.

VELUX and Clipper invest in new onboard cameras and media systems across fleet, enabling skippers to document the action 24/7 and communicate with race followers on land 

For the first time in singlehanded offshore racing, the VELUX 5 OCEANS will provide a standardised package of cutting edge onboard cameras and communications management systems for the competing fleet.

In partnership with Marine Camera Solutions, the worldwide leader in supplying ocean racing communications services and support, VELUX Group as title sponsor and race organisers Clipper Ventures have commissioned the design, production and installation of new onboard cameras and media desks to fit on each racing yacht to record all the action at sea during the nine months of The Ultimate Solo Challenge.

Entries for this year’s J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race are coming in thick and fast via the Race website at www.roundtheisland.org.uk and the Entries team at the Island Sailing Club reports that the first entry received was from an eager Steve Le Butt for his Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40 High Spirits.

This is Steve’s 9th consecutive year of entering the Race but last year’s circumnavigation turned out to be somewhat more action-packed than he had first anticipated as he crossed the Royal Yacht Squadron start line in Cowes.  His race culminated in him being awarded the inaugural ‘Nautica Outstanding Seamanship Award’ after his crew nominated him for his skill and judgement in assisting in a man overboard incident during the day.

A £4 million multi purpose facility for the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) at Osprey Quay on Portland in Dorset has been formally handed over.

RYA Portland House has been developed by regeneration company the Sutton Harbour Group in partnership with the South West RDA (Regional Development Agency) and will be the hub of performance sailing in the run up to and during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

It is the first phase of Sutton Harbour’s £30 million leisure and tourism development called Castle Court near Portland Castle, and the latest development to take shape at Osprey Quay where the RDA is investing £40 million to transform the former Royal Navy Air Station into a major employment centre with up to 1,400 jobs by 2016.
