Record breaking yachtswoman, Dee Caffari, today (11 September) opened applications for the RYA’s 2010 Club of the Year Award at the 2009 PSP Southampton Boat Show.
Joined on the RYA stand (E039) by RYA Volunteer Development Officer Jackie Bennetts, Dee posted the first entry to the 2010 competition.
“Clubs play a key role in getting more people into our sport whether that’s windsurfing, powerboating, motor cruising or my favourite yachting! When I started out sailing my club offered me a huge amount of support and that has played a massive part in getting me to where I am now. Without that I wouldn’t have been able to achieve everything I have”, commented Dee, a member of Royal Southampton Yacht Club.
The Club of the Year Award aims to recognise and promote clubs that are successful, forward looking, and vibrant. Clubs from all over the UK submitt applications detailing how they encourage people onto the water, offer a range of activities for all ages and abilities and are well managed.
Jackie Bennetts added: “The first impression clubs give perspective members is pivotal in their decision whether to take up the sport on a more regular basis. We know there are some excellent clubs out there who are doing a fantastic job of engaging and inspiring people. The RYA Club of the Year Awards are an opportunity to recognise the hard work these clubs put into the sport.”
Clubs are now being urged to submit their applications to be in the running for this coveted title.
