5th MDL in Bloom Competition Winners Announced

Europe's largest marina group, MDL Marinas has announced the winners of its annual 'MDL in Bloom' competition, which rewards 'green fingered' teams at its marinas. Many sites picked up awards for winning their categories, including Hamble Point Marina, Mercury Yacht Harbour, Ocean Village Marina and Shamrock Quay. The winning marinas were presented with gift vouchers and trophies to display on-site.

MDL's marina teams entered a 'blooming marvellous' range of garden displays and floral arrangements across a range of categories, such as best border and beds, best tubs and containers, and best hanging baskets. Entries included handmade wooden planters filled with home-grown plants and a stunning flower display surrounding a historic boat propeller.

The 'MDL in Bloom competition' is organised by Nicola Walsh, Area Manager - Southampton Region, who comments: "Our marinas have certainly been in full bloom this year and awash with colour. The standard of entry was again very high with several of the teams growing their own flowers from seed to pot. The feedback from customers alone is something for the marina teams to be proud of."

Now in its fifth year, the 'MDL in Bloom' competition was initially suggested by the team at Port Hamble Marina and invited the marinas to reclaim the gardens back and treat them as their own. As the competition has grown over the years, more categories have been added to enable those sites without dedicated garden areas to also enter.
