From the launch of a brand new ‘greener’ boat to birthday celebrations there is plenty in store from The Green Blue, the joint environment programme form the BMF and RYA, at the PSP Southampton Boat Show (10-19 September 2010).
Kicking off on Friday 10 September (5pm berth M502) The Green Blue, in partnership with legendary boat builder Jeremy Rogers, will be launching ‘Calypso’, a new greener version of the iconic Contessa 32.
The Green Blue Development Officer Helen Waterhouse explains “The idea behind Calypso is to showcase new and existing environmentally sustainable products and technologies as well as to inspire sailors and boat builders to be as environmentally sensitive as possible.
“We are delighted to have Calypso at the show where she will be proudly displaying her green features all week on berth M502, so come down and take a look”.
The Green Blue will also be celebrating its 5th birthday at the show and will be saying a big thank you to all its partners, ambassadors and supporters. Managing Director of MDL Jon Eads, who was instrumental to the founding of The Green Blue, will be welcoming RYA Chief Executive Sarah Treseder and BMF Chief Executive Rob Stevens to reflect on the success of The Green Blue over the past five years.
On the subject of celebration, The Green Blue will be presenting certificates to a number of marine businesses that have completed the Marine Toolkit online assessment guide and are committed to making environmental improvements at a special lunch.
Dan Reading, The Green Blue’s Sustainable Facilities Officer said “The Marine Toolkit is designed to help managers of leisure boating facilities abide by regulations, reduce waste and increase efficiency. We are delighted at the number of marinas and clubs that have completed the toolkit, proving that there is a real appetite within the industry to improve environmental performance”
Also at the show, don’t miss the re-launch of the new look Green Directory in partnership with Sailing Networks, which offers free listing of environmentally sensitive products and services for the boating sector. The Green Directory is now even easier for consumers to navigate and search; and for companies with listed products, a brand new Green Directory ‘listed’ logo will be available to use alongside the relevant products on their website. Finally, members of the marine industry can sign up to a free Breakfast Briefing on the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme and Renewable Technologies with The Green Blue’s Sustainable Facilities Officer Dan Reading.
