ENIGMA YACHTS LAUNCH NEW KEEL DESIGN FOR SHALLOW WATERS

Enigma Yachts reveals its latest development for the stunning Enigma 34 day-sailer.  Owners with low draft requirements can now opt for a specially-designed short keel version.

Draft is always a hot topic for performance-oriented sailing yachts. Currently the design incorporates a lifting-keel which reduces draft from 2.2 metres to a more manageable 1.6 metres to deliver a great combination of maximum performance when racing and easy mooring once the race is over.

However, to make life easier for owners with smaller crews, Enigma has revealed a new fixed-keel option that will provide the same thrilling levels of performance when racing without the need to lift the keel when mooring. The new fixed-keel option has a draft of 1.8 metres and is a real bonus for short-handed crews and owners in shallower waters.

“Marinas and sailing estuaries in the Solent, Miami Bay, the European lakes and some of the north coast of Germany often only have around 2 metres of draft and the constant up and down of the lifting keel could be too much effort,” says Michael Bornhäusser from Enigma Yachts. “With the new optional 1.8 metre fixed keel, this group of owners now has the perfect solution to their requirements.”

What’s more, the new shorter keel hasn’t affected the Enigma 34’s well-deserved reputation for outstanding stability and racing performance. Because, the new all-carbon fin and lead-filled bulb has been re-designed from scratch by Enigma’s team of in-house naval architects.
