BARRUS TRAINING COURSES SCORE HIGHLY WITH DEALERS

The Barrus Marine Service Training Programme 2009 got underway in January with over 260 marine technicians from 198 dealerships attending the Model Update Courses.

The Model Update Course is just one of a number of basic, intermediate and advanced courses offered by Barrus to apprentices, experienced technicians and dealers requiring refresher courses. Mariner and Mercury outboard courses are combined with MerCruiser inboards to take advantage of the similarity in the product components and test equipment used.  Outboard course topics include Verado PDI/Familiarisation, CDS (Computer Diagnosis System), 4-stroke EFI’s, fault diagnosis, OptiMax engines and engine and gear case overhaul. Inboard course topics include the basics of MerCruiser engines and drives, PDI/Installation and gearbox overhaul.

The annual Northern Ireland Model Update Courses were hosted by McAleese Marine at their extensive workshop facilities in County Armagh. “The Barrus Marine Training Team is very professional imparting huge amounts of technical information to the participants who enjoyed both the theory and practical parts of the courses. We at McAleese Marine acknowledge the importance of proper training for our technicians and the benefits to our customers,” comments John McAleese, managing director, McAleese Marine.

Dulas Boat & Caravan Company, Anglesey, has been attending Barrus marine training courses for over 25 years, Alwyn Rowlands, managing director comments, “The Barrus courses are enjoyable and educational - a benchmark for the industry employing the latest technology and training methods.”

In 2008, 492 marine technicians took part in 35 Barrus training courses with a total of 184 dealerships attending. The courses are held either at Barrus’ Head Office in Bicester or dealer premises. Barrus also run tailored courses for marine technicians employed in professional rescue and Government organisations.
