British Powerboat Champion, Shelley Jory and ex-Boxing Champion, Chris Eubank to race.
Lymington - On Saturday 19th September The Royal Lymington Yacht Club will host the second BIBOA Lymington Challenge RIB Race. Open to everyone and anyone with a RIB, the event was last held nine years ago and designed to allow all boat owners the chance to race competitively and to have fun on the water. The race was a huge success, over thirty boats took part and ever since, the organisers have been pressured to put on another event. Organisers are hoping to attract a wide range of racers from champions to first-timers. The two famous names signed up so far are from completely opposite ends of the racing scale; British Powerboat Champion, Shelley Jory will be in the starting line-up along with boxing legend, Chris Eubank who will be leaving his truck on the shore and finding his sea legs. Eubank has never raced competitively before but is relishing the challenge and hopes that many more racing beginners will be joining him. One of the organisers Peter Lister said, “Since the last event, we have been constantly asked when we are going to arrange another race. Especially in the current economic climate, racers might be reluctant to commit to a series and this gives them an opportunity to take part in a one-off race and have some much needed fun on the water with friends and family. I have raced competitively for a number of years and I can honestly say the last Lymington Challenge was one of the most enjoyable and fun days I’ve had in a powerboat. We want to encourage first-timers to take part and just have a go at racing. It’s not just for the big boats and any size of RIB can take part.” There will be five classes of entry ranging from “up to 150HP” to “above 650 HP” with racing taking part over three laps of approximately 16 nautical miles in the Western Solent and approaches. Chris strickland of BIBOA said, “It’s wonderful that someone like Peter Lister is getting involved in events like The Lymington Challenge and helping inspire a new wave of racers. We are delighted to be putting on this race and we’re sure that it will be a great day. More information and the advance notice and entry form can be found on the BIBOA website www.biboa.com
