Locals launch legal bid to regain access to scenic Mistley Quay

Protest group Free the Quay is launching a legal bid to restore public access to Mistley Quay on the River Stour, on the second anniversary of the erection of a controversial fence at the quayside.

FTQ is applying for the historic quay, to which the public have enjoyed free access for hundreds of years, to become a village green under the 2006 Commons Act.

On Friday 17 September FTQ published an open letter to quay owners TWL Logistics, asking it to join in the application and to take the fence down, saying FTQ would pay for a suitable alternative barrier if necessary.

NEW LOOK AND NEW FEATURES FOR THE GREEN DIRECTORY

From today, visitors to The Green Directory, a joint initiative between The Green Blue and Sailing Networks, a social networking site for the boating community and marine industry, will experience a great new look, easier navigation and more information than ever before.
 
Jane Swan, The Green Blue Project Manager explains: “As well as having a design facelift, visitors will be able to locate the site with ease and by simplifying the product categories it will be quicker to add or search for products.”

LADIES DAY AT THE PSP SOUTHAMPTON BOAT SHOW - THURSDAY 16th SEPTEMBER

Ladies Day returns to the PSP Southampton Boat Show tomorrow, Thursday 16th September.

In association with ITV Meridian and in its third consecutive year, Ladies Day looks set to be a fabulous day for ladies to enjoy at the Show, all whilst raising money for the Wessex Cancer Trust.
 
Shelley Jory-Leigh, the British Power Boat Champion, will act as the Ladies Day ambassador whilst visitors attending the day will enjoy a glass of champagne and fashion scouts from the Southern Daily Echo search the crowds to crown the Best Dressed Lady.

PETERS & MAY SAVES THE DAY FOR HYDRA-SPORTS BOAT DELIVERED TO THE SHOW

Last minute refinements meant that the cutting-edge 2500 VX Vector Series Fishing Boat was transported by the leader in global logistics, Peters & May, via air, road and sea to Southampton in advance of the Show.

The 25 foot boat arrived in the UK within just three days of departing the US factory, travelling over 5,000 miles.

ITV1’S ALL AT SEA STARS OPEN THE PSP SOUTHAMPTON BOAT SHOW

Fresh from sailing around the south coast of England for ITV1’s recent All At Sea three-part series, Dawn Porter and Nick Hancock officially marked the opening of the PSP Southampton Boat Show in Mayflower Park today, Friday 10 September. 

Taking advantage of their new-found sea legs, Dawn and Nick arrived into the Show’s marina onboard an original World War Two RAF high speed rescue launch.  Completing the line up, a World War Two Royal Navy Motor Gunboat and the Grace Spitfire ML 407 helped to kick off the celebrations.

YOUNGSTERS PREPARE TO BATTLE IN NATIONAL POWERBOATING FINAL

Thirty two talented young powerboaters from across the UK and Gibraltar will be hitting the water at the PSP Southampton Boat Show on Sunday (12th September) putting their skill, control and speed to the test in a race against the clock, in the hope of clinching the prestigious title of 2010 Honda RYA Youth RIB National Champion.

After a summer of regional finals, we have witnessed some fantastic skills from competitors  and some extremely exciting races with many close finishes so this year’s final is gearing up to be a real nail-biter!
