With six weeks to go until the opening of the 2008 Sail Power and Watersports Show, limited space is available for companies wishing to exhibit after organisers announced that the Show is nearly full.

Following the success of the 2007 show at Earls Court when Northshore reported sales of 12 Southerly Yachts, boating enthusiasts will be able to get on board the latest Southerly 32 and 38, representing the very best in British design and build quality.

Earlier today, the former Olympic rower and Gold medallist James Cracknell was at Earls Court during the exciting build-up to the opening of Sail, Power & Watersports Show in six days time, on Wednesday 26 November.  

James was photographed sitting in a tiny rowing boat on top of a London black cab by a large pack of top London news photographers right outside the entrance to Earls Court as part of a safety campaign initiative.

Things are looking relatively rosy for the marine industry exhibitors at the Sail, Power & Watersports Show with a number of sales being announced at Earls Court today. The overall mood is looking decidedly positive with sales recorded in most sectors.

Eric Brossier, the French geophysicist and yachtsman who made Polar history when he made the first uninterrupted circumnavigation of the North Pole by yacht, was in London yesterday.

Brossier and his family, who live on their 47ft yacht Vagabond, visited the Sail, Power & Watersports Show yesterday while in transit from Norway to Poland.

Author Tom Cunliffe is at the show today launching the new National historic ships database of skills and materials.

This new database is aimed at those who need to track down traditional materials or find skilled craftsmen to carry out restoration work on traditional craft.

As the Sail, Power and Watersports Show heads happily towards this year’s finishing line this evening, the organisers are already declaring the show a fabulous success with record attendance and record sales being reported by Managing Director, James Brooke.

“There has been an overwhelmingly positive response from exhibitors and visitors alike and as a result, we will be back next year and are delighted to announce the dates for 2009 are 25 – 29 November.”

In the wake of the Chancellor’s VAT reduction announcement yesterday, James Brooke, the Managing Director of the Sail, Power & Watersports Show which opens tomorrow Wednesday 26th November, is confident that this is absolutely the right move as far as his Show exhibitors are concerned and exhibitors have, in turn, been quick to praise the move.

No one really knew what to expect when the Sail, Power & Watersports Show rode into town last Wednesday but the consensus is that the organisers have pulled off a success story in the face of an economic downturn.

They have successfully established a marketplace that has created a cash sales environment; the tills have been ringing and buyers are using cash and it’s not ‘borrowed’ money as the banks aren’t lending says the Show’s Managing Director, James Brooke.
