The opening day of the 2008 Sail Power and Watersports Show has been deemed a huge success by the exhibitors, and visitors to the show today. The day kicked off at 10:00 with the Royal Marines providing visitors with a fine display of abseiling as they shimmied down the face of Earls Court. Katie Derham, ITV newsreader and presenter, was then joined on stage for the official show opening by some well-known names from the world of sail, power and watersports including James Brooke, the show’s managing director, Geoff Holt the quadriplegic record-breaking yachtsman, Steve Curtis, eight times Class 1 powerboat world champion, and Jack Moule, the 14 year old UK jet ski freestyle champion. The Earls Court Boat Auction has been extremely popular with 100 boats up for auction throughout the show.
Daily registering and bidding on the boatbid auction pod at stand H90 starts every day at 1000 and closes at 1700. Each day there are 20 boats up for auction, ranging from small family cruisers to a mock Spanish galleon. There’s even a British America’s Cup (GBR70), which raced in New Zealand in 2002, up for grabs tomorrow afternoon.
