ROYAL MARINES MARK START OF SHOW WITH AN ABSEIL OFF EARLS COURT
Hundreds of visitors turned up at the opening of the Sail, Power and Watersports Show this morning to watch the Commando Display Team abseil off the roof down the front of building. The team of six under the command of Captain Yapp shimmied down the face of Earls Court within seconds and then headed in the show to prepare for their next venture.

Captain Yapp – Commanding Officer of the Commando Display Team – said: “We do a number of similar commercial events but we also do many ‘meet the marines’ events, mainly at schools, which is all about showing a bit about what life in the Royal Marines is all about. The Outdoor show at the NEC is also good for us but basically we go anywhere where we might expect to get some recruitment benefit.”

According to Yapp anyone from the age of 16 to 32 can apply to join up as long as, “you’re young, fit and determined.” So, if you think you have what it takes, have a chat with one of the commandos at the show today.
