SARAH OUTEN TO APPEAR AT THE LONDON BOAT SHOW

The ocean rowing world’s latest recruit, Sarah Outen, takes to the Main Stage – powered by Fairline at the 2009 London International Boat Show in January to give visitors an insight into life as an ocean rower.  Appearing alongside Britain’s boating heroes Dame Ellen MacArthur, Sir Keith Mills and Geoff Holt, Sarah Outen will be a name to remember.

The Show marks the launch of Sarah’s audacious bid to become the first woman to row solo across the Indian Ocean.  At 23 she will be the youngest person to attempt the 3000 mile journey, which she hopes to complete within 107 days to beat the current world record, held by British rower Simon Chalk.

Rowing her 24ft boat for as many hours of the day as her body – and the gods – allow, Sarah will have to battle through 40˚C heat, fierce winds and 30ft waves.  Visitors can explore Sarah’s boat to see where she will sleep, cook and eat on her intercontinental expedition.

Sarah will be on hand to answer questions or give advice to budding ocean enthusiasts:

“I want to give people a glimpse of what it will be like to be all alone out at sea, with no human contact for miles and miles,” says Sarah. “With just the bare essentials, no television, fresh food or hot showers, most people would go crazy, but I’m just so excited about the whole thing.  I can’t wait to get out there and start rowing.

“I'm thrilled to be taking part in the London International Boat Show.  I’m usually standing on the other side of the stage awestruck by the tales of adventurers such as Dame Ellen McArthur or Roz Savage.   But now it will be me up there trying to inspire others to follow their dreams,” she says.

Due to depart March ‘09, Sarah is currently training full time on and off the water, working with specialists to ensure she’s in peak physical fitness for her ocean endurance challenge.

Come and see Sarah and her boat on the Main Stage – Powered by Fairline at ExCel London between the 9 and 18 January, or for more information about Sarah’s big adventure and how you could be involved, please visit www.sarahouten.co.uk.
