P1 SUPERSTOCK - ROUGH CUT RACING TAKE PWLLHELI GRAND PRIX OF THE SEA TITLE

Ian Brusby and Andy Wilby became the first team to topple the previously unbeaten Heights of Abraham outfit as the new 300 Class kings won their inaugural P1 SuperStock Championship trophy in north Wales.

With the pulsating powerboat action set against the breathtaking Llyn Peninsula backdrop, the Doncaster team pushed its powerboat to the limit and found superior pace than its rivals, Maurice Lacroix, and Evans Heritage Developments. A delighted Brusby said: "It was magnificent. The team's really starting to gel and even though this is only our second event together, we've got a good chemistry going and we can only get stronger.

"There were a few hairy moments as the sea conditions made it quite uncomfortable through the chicane and the course set-up ensured the racing was spectacular for those watching."

Heights of Abraham were left to rue some awful luck towards the end of Sunday morning's race when the championship pacesetters encountered technical problems. Whilst it didn't affect the outcome of the race, Rupert Pugh and Dan Whapples were visibly way off the pace generate by Messrs Brusby and Wilby during race two, and were forced to settle for runners-up spot ahead of Evans Heritage Developments, who secured third place with two podium finishes on Sunday.

Premier Cru triumphed in the 150 Class as pilots, John Wilson and Neil Scarborough, continued their imperious form on the water this season to win their third consecutive P1 SuperStock Grand Prix of the Sea.

Some outstanding navigation from Scarborough whose vision was clearly impaired by the immense sea spray complemented Wilson's aggressive driving and astute handling behind the wheel.

Now commanding a sizeable lead in the series after claiming their seventh win of the year, Wilson was thrilled by the team's positive reaction following a first defeat in Galway in June. He said: "It was a fantastic Grand Prix. We wanted to prove we were still the team to beat in the 150 Class, so to race home in such convincing style was exactly the type of response we were after."

Eclipse and Team Fox were inseparable for most of Sunday's exploits. Going neck-and-neck into turn one in the weekend's opening race, drivers' Rose Lores and Martin Colligan refused to concede sea position and suffered a nervous close shave as both teams battled to catch the surprise frontrunners, Flying Sparks.

Lores and co-pilot Sara Cureton crossed the finishing line in second position in both races to strengthen their grip on runners-up spot in the series ahead of Team Fox duo, Martin Colligan and Gideon du Val, who weren't far behind on both occasions and remain two points behind the ladies in the standings.

Other highlights of the weekend in Wales included the successful debut for Aztec Racing with Azam Rangoonwala and Jesus Esteve both showing natural talent in the cockpit. Despite finishing sixth in both outings, the new boys illustrated plenty of promise and will be pushing hard to work their way up the table in Southampton on September 12th.

The P1 SuperStock Championship also welcomed an RAF fighter pilot and a group of marine engineer students from local school, Coleg Meirion Dwyforto, to its outstanding Pwllheli Sailing Club base.

"Everybody in Pwllheli has made all of us feel extremely welcome and the hospitality at the Pwllheli Sailing Club was first class," added Wilson. "It was fantastic to come back this year and with the new academy on its way, Pwllheli is establishing a reputation as one of the UK's leading maritime centre's of excellence."
