International powerboating governing body, Union Internationale Motonautique, has voted a spectacular image taken at the 2009 Powerboat P1 Sicily Grand Prix of the Sea as its photograph of the year, at the 12th Annual UIM photo competition awards.
English photographer, Dan Towers, from onEdition Photography, shot the winning image, which sees British outfit, Team SW1 Capital, passing Italians, Al & Al, en route to victory in Siracusa, in September.
Towers led the 'Endurance' class, claiming both Gold and Silver awards ahead of onEdition colleagues, Neil Munns, who picked up the Bronze award and Matt Dickens in 4th place.
In total, the first eight places in the 'Endurance' class were dominated by the onEdition team. Dan, who also picked up a Bronze Medal in the 'Atmosphere' class, said; "I am thrilled for the whole team. This is a great recognition for all of the hard work that onEdition have put in to deliver Powerboat P1 to the worlds media.'
Sam Feasey, Powerboat P1 Management Ltd, said: "Everyone at Powerboat P1 would like to congratulate Dan Towers and onEdition Photography for winning the Endurance category photograph of the year in the highly competitive 12th annual Union Internationale Motonautique photo competition.
"The winning photograph is a spectacular example of our sport's breathtaking action and represents the bravery and meticulous accuracy of both pilot and photographer.
"This prestigious accolade proves that onEdition Photography are amongst the finest in their field and Powerboat P1 is extremely excited about continuing its relationship in 2010."
