POWERBOAT P1 - MEET THE PILOTS: MILES JENNINGS

Racing Silverline's new driver Miles JenningsMiles Jennings is a master of racing. It’s in his blood. Inherited from his father who raced Norton motorbikes and with his own passion for speed – it has seen Miles collect three world titles, the Harmsworth Cup and smash numerous speed records.

Behind the racer, there’s a savvy businessman. Miles is the co-owner of Stovac and a group of ceramic companies. Many of the products can be found in the kitchens and bathrooms of footballers and celebrities. It’s this success that gives Miles the opportunity to continue his passion within the Powerboat P1 series.

From 16 years old, Miles has been competing on the water, racing whatever boat he could afford at the time just to get his fix. Through out his life, it seems to appear that there’s not much that Miles hasn’t put through its paces on the water. In 2010, he’ll take on a new role as pilot for Racing Silverline. Miles conveys an optimistic air for this year and is excited about the boat and his role within the team.

A self proclaimed adrenalin junkie, it’s not often you’ll find this pilot sat around collecting dust. When he’s not in the boat preparing to race he can be caught tearing up the pistes or catching thermals for some kite-boarding action. His Playboy image mixed with the racing danger and overwhelming enthusiasm for his sport, has often had him compared to F1 legend, James Hunt. It’s taken as a compliment and why wouldn’t it be?

Miles tells us that it’s a special breed that take on the calculated risk to get their kicks – Miles himself has slammed into a harbour wall at 100mph, sunk and rolled many a boat but nothing has put him off returning for more. After tales of such drama at sea, you may expect him to be intense, but he has a charismatic charm and laid back manor that seems to take it all in his stride. On a lighter side he continues to tell us that he’s even raced dressed as a pantomime horse in front of Princess Anne and had to be rescued from a sinking boat while dressed as a nun!

A rock fan with AC/DC on replay admits Miles, but was keen to also mention his attendance of Global Gathering and history of mixing it up in the heart of clubland, Ibiza. It seems whatever Miles is doing, be it sport or music, it’s full on, fast paced and at 100mph.

Powerboat P1 is a series where regular guys can become legends and Miles Jennings is the proof.
