This weekend Southampton based P1 SuperStock Team Helvetia Wealth piloted by Shelley Jory-Leigh will power into Plymouth for the second round of the five part RYA National Championship. The 15th – 17th July will see around twenty teams in the Powerboat P1 SuperStock Championship battle it out for glory in the Plymouth Sound.

Sitting currently in 5th place in the RYA National Championship Team Helvetia Wealth will be looking to make an impact in Plymouth to work their way up the leader board and claim back some points on the championship leaders. Navigator Dan Smith can’t wait for the challenge “Jersey was all about us getting used to each other as a team,  about how the boat handled and the competition we faced. We’ve now had that chance and we’re ready to fight for the top podium spot.

He continued “ Plymouth’s one of Powerboat Racing’s most famous homes in the UK, it creates a natural amphitheatre that’s fantastic for spectators as well as providing unpredictable conditions for the racers, so should provide us with some fantastic racing.”

The first to admit that Jersey was one of the toughest races she’s ever had to endure Shelley has fond memories of winning in Plymouth back in 2004 and can’t wait to try and duplicate that next weekend. “Plymouth’s a Fantastic venue for powerboat racing and most of the UK’s best powerboat racers have raced in Plymouth at one time or another!”

She continues “Both Dan and I have raced in Plymouth before so we’re familiar with the venue and the conditions we could face. I last raced here in 2004 in my first year in the Honda Formula 4Stroke Association where we won the race despite it being stopped early due to some friendly Dolphins. Dan raced more recently in 2009 where he took the silver medal in the Zapcat Racing Championship. We’re both feeling really confident about the race and it’s time to show the rest of the teams we mean business, watch out boys!”

Team Helvetia Wealth are being partnered by local Bar and Restaurant The Treasury for the Plymouth Grand Prix of the Sea.  The owner of the Treasury Ben Shearn commented “It’s fantastic that P1 SuperStock will be racing in Plymouth over the 15th- 17th of July. Powerboat Racing always provides a great spectacle for visitors to Plymouth and the city’s residents. It’s not something you get to see everyday and is a fantastic opportunity.

Ben continues “We can’t wait to be on board with Shelley and Dan for the weekend and hopefully we can bring them some luck for the event. We also look forward to welcoming all the teams and officials to party with us in the Treasury on Saturday night, to swap racing stories over some good food and a few beers."
