Siegfried Greve has pledged to right the wrongs of Malta and put in a memorable performance in Turkey next month as the #66 Cranefield Wines team attempt to break into the Evolution class top three.
Despite a promising Sprint race on the Saturday in Valletta, the Cranefield Wines crew were unable to race in the Endurance the following day due to engine damage. “What transpired was the worst thing that could happen. It was very disappointing. We were really keen to race on the Sunday but the severe engine damage stopped us completely. The problem lay with the engine overheating.”

| ZAPCATS - BLAZING START IN BOURNEMOUTH 30 May 2009 (419 reads)
The Zapcat season kicked off in style when 28 teams lined up for the first green flag of the season to drop. A mixture of seasoned racers and rookies were met by a warm welcome from new organisers ZCR Ltd. With perfect blue skies and choppy conditions the scene was set.
Thousands flocked to Bournemouth’s beaches to see if Reigning champion Mick Pritchard’s predictions for the season would be correct. In division 2 Zapcat 09 Delta Jets/Marin Subsea got off to a dominating start in their heats with Westgate Zapcat 28 also proving their place at the top of the division. Also racing strong were Zapcat 39 Cat in the Hat and Royal Marine Team Commando Spirit in Zapcat 41 returning from last year.

The City of Plymouth one of the UK’s most desirable coastal locations has been chosen to mark a special anniversary of motorsport achievement this June 20th and 21st when it hosts the 10th Birthday and 100th race day of The Honda Formula 4-Stroke Race Series, the largest offshore powerboat event in the World. The series will return to Plymouth for the second leg of the 2009 Championship.
The Plymouth Grand Prix has always been a favourite on the Formula 4-Stroke race calendar and this year Honda are back for even more exciting on water action as one of the highlights of the cities entertainment calendar. When Honda launched its first large scale outboard engine in 1999, the 4-Stroke BF130 it would have been an optimistic prediction that this early model would set the basis of what would become the World’s largest Offshore Powerboat race series.

Powerboat P1 officially launched the countdown to August’s Scandinavian Grand Prix of the Sea in Gothenburg yesterday.
Influential members of the marine industry and international media joined Powerboat P1 officials from the UK and Sweden to outline ambitious plans for the offshore powerboating extravanganza, which will hit the maritime-obsessed city between August 7-9. | CLASS 1 - IOTA FORCED TO CANCEL SPANISH GRAND PRIX 22 May 2009 (382 reads)
IOTA, the organiser of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, has confirmed that due to circumstances beyond its control, it has been forced to cancel the Spanish Grand Prix.
“Despite all our efforts and numerous attempts to maintain the running of the 2009 Class 1 Spanish Grand Prix, which was due to be held in Alicante on 7 June, we have, regrettably, been forced to cancel the race, having had to accept the fact that not all the necessary conditions which would have enabled the event to go ahead on the scheduled date were in place,” said IOTA General Secretary, Marco Sala, adding, “We are, however, currently looking at other venues in order to maintain the regularity of Events in the running of the 2009 Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.”

Powerboat racing has lost a truly dedicated driver as 53 year-old Enrico “Chicco” Vidoli passed away due to an accident on the 9th of May on Lake Lugano doing what he truly loved best, competing and racing on the water.
The Italian ex-F1 driver was last seen as a competitor at a U.I.M. Grand Prix event in late summer of 1998 when he qualified 15th of the Grand Prix of Italy at Stresa on Lake Maggiore. He was helping in the introduction of the then new Belco Avia designed boat with the Rainbow racing organization. “Chicco’s” most memorable racing event may have come back on the 15th of September in 1985 when he was running at speeds of up to 225 kph or (140mph) at the Grand Prix of France in Lyon when riding flat out in his 550 hp catamaran hulled boat.

PM of Malta, Dr. Lawrence Gonzi, is given a tour of the P1 Village by Martin SanbornPowerboat P1’s royalty were treated to a special visit from the Prime Minister of Malta, Dr. Lawrence Gonzi, before Sunday’s Endurance Race showdown.
Prior to boarding his boat for the day, taking in a front seat view of the action, Dr. Gonzi was given the guided tour of the P1 village, weaving through the giant hulls, tents and crane’s, rubbing shoulders with some of the sport’s finest, including Malta’s dynamic duo, Aaron and Audrienne Ciantar. England might have its football fashion and Wales its rugby religion but Malta is the bedrock of powerboating.

The Seagull Chaudron crew celebrate their victory in the Grand Prix of the Sea in MaltaThe #43 Seagull Chaudron and #88 SNAV OSG have been declared as the Grand Prix of Malta title winners in the SuperSport and Evolution classes respectively.
Aaron Ciantar, Angelo Tedeschi and Viktor Shemchuk from Seagull Chaudron and the SNAV OSG crew of Hannes Bohinc, Giancarlo Cangiano and Giovanni Carpitella were presented with the coveted trophy by the newly-elected president of Malta, Dr George Abela. The Seagull Chaudron hull finished second in the Saturday's Sprint race and emerged victorious from the Endurance race on Sunday.
