The city that Peter the Great founded in 1703 had been the capital of the Russian Empire for over 200 years and with its rich history, a new tradition is taking place as the U.I.M. F1 H2O World Championship returns for the seventh time on the head of the Gulf of Finland wrapping up the European season for the 8th Grand Prix of Russia on the weekend of the eighth and ninth of August.

Don't forget to tune in to Eurosport 1 on Tuesday evening (28 July) for coverage of the action-packed Italian Grand Prix of the Sea from San Benedetto del Tronto which took place earlier this month.
Eurosport last week announced that 1.95million viewers tuned into the station's coverage of the Turkish Grand Prix of the Sea. Coverage of the Italian Grand Prix of the Sea begins at 23:30 CET and 22:30 UK time.

FORMULA 4 STROKE - NEW BLOOD ENDS HONDA RACE WEEKEND IN SPECTACULAR FINALE 26 July 2009 (331 reads)
The Honda Formula 4-Stroke Powerboat race which was held today (Sunday) has been one of the most spectacular and memorable Grand Prix’s the area has witnessed since the series began racing in Lowestoft in 2007.
The day began with the 225hp fleet and a marvellous win once again for home team Lings driven by David Cowley and Navigator Paul Barkshire. Leaving a tremendous gap between themselves and their opposition Team Williams they had clearly won the race before they had finished. In third were the German crew of Power of Dreams Germany who mopped up the wake of their challengers to take the final victory of the morning.

POWERBOAT P1 - MONTANARI: WE HAVE EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS 26 July 2009 (247 reads)
#28 Blue Shaft throttleman Federico Montanari has declared himself satisfied with the progress of his team's boat in 2009.
Alongside team-mates Gianbattista Gabriele and Alfredo Zanardo, Montanari has helped his team secure 302 points in their maiden Powerboat P1 season - registering points in all but one of the races. "At the start we knew that this season would be very hard as it is our first Powerboat P1 season," says Montanari. "We knew that racing alongside Stefano Acanfora, Renato Guidi, Aaron Ciantar, Angelo Tedeschi would not make it simple for us.

Scorching weather and enthusiastic crowds lined the coast of Lowestoft today for the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Powerboat Grand Prix which followed on from the success of the Lowestoft Sea Front Air Festival this week.
All eyes were on Ling’s in the first 225hp race of the weekend as the team were under immense pressure to dominate the first place position. Crew members David Cowley, driver and Chris Jary, navigator were on top form amid the pressure and stunned crowds in an extreme lead against the Williams boat making their position un-catchable.

HONDA SET TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE ON SUCCESS OF AIR FESTIVAL 24 July 2009 (244 reads)
With only days to go until the start of the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Grand Prix of Lowestoft, anticipation of this weekend’s racing is already filling the East Coast upon the hype of the successful Lowestoft Air Festival. The Honda powerboat event which is following on into the weekend (July 25th & 26th) from the Air Festival is set to attract a staggering amount of spectators in light of their success in 2008.
Lings Honda will act as the headquarters of the event this weekend starting with a drivers briefing which will be held at 6:30pm on Friday. The full fleet of powerboats are due to start arriving from tomorrow just before the brief into Haven Marina along with their crew and sponsors.

Zapcat Racing the World’s largest one design powerboat championship brings the action to Barry Island, Wales on the 1st and 2nd of August.
Around 30 of the feisty catamarans will battle it out over two days in 16 heats of racing for the title of Barry Island Zapcat Grand Prix winners. This will be the first time the Championship has ever been to Barry Island, and will see the long awaited return for the championship to Wales, with an absence from Welsh waters for 6 years.

It’s amazing what one year can do to make or break a driver and his race team.
In 2008, Swedish sensation Jonas Andersson was struggling just to continue to stay ahead of his financial burdens and keep his racing team alive. Racing under extreme pressure at last years Grand Prix of Russia, the 34 year-old driver from Fruvi qualified fourth and eventually came home with his second career victory. He then used his earnings from the victory to extend his season, eventually taking third in the drivers championship, finishing with 62 points in his best performance in his third year on the U.I.M. F1 H2O World Championship for power boating tour.

ZAPCATS INVADE SCOTLAND - DRAMBUIE PURSUIT ON ITV4 TONIGHT 23 July 2009 (286 reads)
Back in May a team of Vortex instructors and Zapcat competitors headed to Skye in Scotland to be part of the Drambuie Pursuit ’09.
The Drambuie Pursuit is an adventure race through the Scottish Highlands celebrating the gallant flight of Bonnie Prince Charlie, for whom the secret recipe for Drambuie was created in 1745. Participants climb, bike, canoe and archer their way through the 100-mile one-day event, paddling across the River Ness and tracing the steps of the prince when he was defeated at the Battle of Culloden.

YELLOW CARD AND PENALTY LAP FOR AL ZAFEEN AND BIN HENDI 22 July 2009 (241 reads)
Following post-race investigation by WPPA race officials, Fazza's Arif Al Zafeen and Nadir Bin Hendi have been issued with a yellow card for an infringement during the start of last weekend's BMW Norwegian Grand Prix.
Evaluating reports and television footage, WPPA race director Rory Power found that the crew of Fazza left insufficient space or clearance for other boats either in the vicinity or being overtaken, and did in fact drive in a manner not permitted within the rules during the start run area to the first turn, issuing a yellow card and penalty long lap for the infringements.
