ZAPCAT RACING - PROVISIONAL 2010 RACE CALENDAR

Ok everyone here goes.... remember this is provisional and as each venue / date is confirmed we will let you know.  As promised there will be a minimum of eight Championship Grand Prix Events, we are however working to provide two extra GP Events as part of the Championship, more news to follow on this soon.

Hopefully this will give everyone a good idea of the planned dates for next year, realistically there shouldnt be too many changes to this calender but please do not start booking time off / holidays or start making any travel / accommodation arrangements just yet, as dates and venues may be subject to change until confirmed.

HOOK SET TO COMPETE IN SBI WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN KEY WEST

Anglo-American pilot and Powerboat P1 stalwart Nigel Hook is to compete at next month's Key West World Championships alongside Swedish driver Michael Silfverberg.

The duo will form the new #77 Lucas Oil Scandinavian Offshore Challenge team for the event which takes place from the 8th - 15th November. They will pilot the Skater P1 with Mercury power, which won Hook the World Championship back in 2006.

Silfverberg, a native of Stockholm in Sweden, has spent a lifetime on the seas. A former commercial captain and navy submariner, he is also a leader of the Super Marine yacht dealership back in Sweden, and is optimistic about the team's chances in Florida:

THUNDERCAT RACING - CHAMPIONS CROWNED IN THE THRILLS AND SPILLS OF PORTHCAWL SURF

The gale force winds of the Welsh coast saw the most accelerating racing in the 2009 season...

Fantastic surf saw the finale of the ThunderCat racing RYA National Championship.  Thanks to the local community of Porthcawl and their excellent surf safety teams that joined our own the ThunderCat community can celebrate the closure of two years with no racing accidents, a credit to everyone involved.

The weekend started with a few hesitations on Saturday as the winds reached gale force, marquees and flags being destroyed thus the racing was cancelled after competitors competing in only four heats…

FULL THROTTLE FOR HYDREX CHARITY FUND RAISER

Dr Liam Fox MP for North Somerset illustrated with Vincent Scott-Halton Marketing Manager of the Bristol based Hydrex group – a leading national excavator rental company, drew the winner of a raffle which supported the raising of funds for the “Help for Heroes” Charity.

The prize winner will enjoy a weekend in Exmouth experiencing the thrills of power boat racing and enjoying a behind the scenes introduction to the Hydrex Honda Formula 4-Stroke Power Boat team who won the 2009 British Offshore Championship series after participating at five venues and in twelve rounds.

ZAPCAT RACING CELEBRATE 10TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2010

As we head towards the winter months we do at least have 2010 and the Anniversary of a decade of Zapcat Racing to look forward to.

It is time to announce some of our very exciting plans for the forthcoming year with one of the most comprehensive calendars ever!

We will be mixing up lots of racing with some fun events too!

The feedback that we have received to date is pretty much unanimous, it has been a difficult, hectic but very successful year, with some great innovations, new venues and a real buzz about next year and that the season finished way too soon!

CLASS 1 POWERBOATS - IOTA HOLD TALKS WITH BERMUDA’S PREMIER

IOTA has held talks with Bermuda’s Premier, Dr. Ewart Brown, to discuss the feasibility of holding a round of the Championship in Bermuda in 2010. 

IOTA General Secretary, Marco Sala, and Operations Director, Pasquale Sesana, were invited by Karl Outerbridge – owner of OTBT – to visit the islands last week for a series of preliminary meetings with Premier Brown and officials..

POWERBOAT P1 GEARS UP FOR UIM ASSEMBLY

Robert Wicks is attending the UIM Assembly in ItalyRepresentatives from the Powerboat P1 World Championships are in Riccione in Italy this week for the Union Internationale Motonatique (UIM) Annual Assembly.

The conference, which took place in Australia last year, sees offshore motorsport promoters from across the globe get together to present their season reviews to the International governing body of powerboating.

The Calendar meeting will take place on Saturday 24th October, when promoters will sit down to ensure that potential date clashes with other competitions are avoided.

FORMULA 1 POWERBOATS - SAMI SELIO HOLDS OFF JAY PRICE TO WIN IN CHINA

Sami Selio showed off his speed and his cool driving talents as he was pushed to the limit by defending World Champion Jay Price of the Qatar Team who did everything he could to win for the first time in five races, but, it was the Helsinki, Finland driver who came away with the 20 points and moved closer to the top of the drivers championship table with his second victory in the last four starts here at the 11th Grand Prix of China.

The lead driver of the Mad Croc sponsored boat who now has 83 points on the season sitting third in the championship, switched hulls and drove teammates Massimo Roggierio's boat instead of his own damaged hull for the first time.

BLUE SHEETS RACING CROWNED YOUNGEST ZAPCAT CHAMPIONS TO DATE

#3, Blue Sheets Racing 1,  Craig Davis (21) and Robert Martin (21) have been crowned the 2009 Zapcat National Champions, making them the youngest champions in the contests 9 years.

Davis started racing in 2005 and it wasn’t long before he teamed up with Martin to produce a formidable young team in the World’s Largest One Design Powerboat Championship. In 2007 they secured second place in the championship and in 2008 third narrowly missing the top spot on both occasions.

When the Green flag dropped at Bournemouth in May for the beginning of the 2009 campaign, it looked like it may finally be their year as they took wins in every heat, both days finals and the first Grand Prix title of the season. A long winter of training saw the youngsters on top of their game and leading the championship from day one.

CLASS 1 POWERBOATS - GIORGI READY TO FIGHT FOR A PODIUM PLACE

Giorgi offshore throttleman, Nicola Giorgi, is confident that the team can challenge for a podium place when Class 1 heads to the U.A.E. for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, 19-21 November.

The team is currently carrying out repairs to the damage sustained to their boat following the collision with Victory 77 on the opening lap of Race 2 in the Italian Grand Prix, which was to put Giorgi and Norwegian driver Kurt Olsen out of the race on lap 4.  “It was a racing incident and one that can easily happen when the boats are so close in performance and all arriving at tight turn buoys together.” said Giorgi.  “Maybe we should go back to have real offshore races rather than inshore races with offshore boats?”
