CLASS ONE POWERBOATS - VICTORY POISED TO LIFT WORLD TITLE
04 December 2008 (446 reads)

Dubai’s Victory Team stand poised to lift their eighth World Championship in this weekend’s Mina Seyahi Grand Prix, the penultimate race of the season, but will err on the side of caution, knowing that they do not need the win to wrap up the title. "Getting to the end of the race is vital and if we do that we are in a very good position." said Victory’s general manager, Gianfranco Venturelli. "Our focus is, of course, the World Championship and our strategy is simple. The instruction to both crews is to run a clever race, not to get involved in a fight for the win, and above all, not to take any risks."

CLASS 1 - MARITIMO TEST THE WATERS IN DOHA
21 April 2009 (399 reads)

Maritimo Australia took their first tentative steps in the build-up to their 2009 Class 1 campaign, with Peter 'Muddy' McGrath and team newcomer, Giorgio Manuzzi, teaming up for the first time to shake down the team's number two boat, Maritimo 12 in Doha.

“It was good to get out on the water and clearly we still have some work to do,” said McGrath. “I wasn’t that happy with the balance of the boat and we also had some fuel issues that we need to look into.”

It was also the first opportunity for this new pairing to size each other up, and for New Zealander, McGrath, to get back out on Qatar’s Doha Bay circuit, where he took his first Grand Prix win alongside team boss Bill Barry-Cotter in 2002.

28 April 2009 (272 reads)

Victory for Fazza 3 in the opening round of the UIM/WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship was sealed this afternoon by Arif Al Zafeen and Nadir Bin Hendi. Second place went to home favourites Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani and Steve Curtis, with Class 1 debutant Mohammad Al Mehairi and Jean-Marc Sanchez claiming third place in a sun-kissed Qatar Marine Festival Grand Prix.

The team had a frustrating return to full-time racing in Class 1 at the season-opener in Qatar, and were hampered by one or two technical glitches and some handling issues - described by McGrath as ‘like driving a fork lift on ice’ - and which saw him and team newcomer, Giorgio Manuzzi, fail to make the Grand Prix after spinning out in pre-race practice and damaging their boat, and team-mates Tom Barry-Cotter and Pal Nilsen retiring on lap 5.

Class 1 - ARENDAL IS PURE ENTERTAINMENT...
06 June 2009 (341 reads)

After the sweeping open course they faced in Doha Bay at the season-opener in Qatar, teams now start to prepare for arguably the most spectacular, challenging and demanding course on the Class 1 calendar – Arendal.

The stunning and picturesque town of Arendal, with its population of 40,000 inhabitants, is tucked away and hidden amongst the majestic fjords of the south coast of Norway.  Because the town was built on seven tiny islands with a surrounding network of canals, it was originally called the Venice of Scandinavia.

The Norwegian Grand Prix is one of the biggest events in the country's sporting calendar, drawing crowds of 150,000 over the race weekend and provides a stern and daunting test for drivers and throttlemen.

CLASS 1 POWERBOATS - CAN VICTORY TEAM CLOSE OUT THE TITLE RACE IN ABU DHABI?

Maximum points from this weekend’s first-ever Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, round five of the UIM-WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, for Victory 1 or Fazza, would secure a remarkable ninth World title for Dubai’s Victory Team.

The charismatic Italian will be the first to concede that whilst his SCAM-powered Victory-built Foresti & Suardi - Roscioli Hotels could do with a much-needed makeover, to take points in all races, and with four different drivers over the course of the year, is a remarkable show of consistency.

CLASS 1 POWERBOATS - MOHAMMAD AND JEAN-MARC…TRUE CHAMPIONS
12 December 2009 (354 reads)

It was a Championship winning partnership between a rookie driver and a former World Champion that came together for the first time in the 2009 season opener in Doha, Qatar, before yesterday’s tragedy brought a cruel and devastating end to their story.

The exuberance of Emirati Mohammad Al Mehairi and experience of Frenchman Jean-Marc Sanchez would go on to secure a pole position, race wins and the European title in their eight races together.

An impressive showing and a fourth place in the opening pole position of the season, was surpassed by a third place finish in their first race at the Qatar Grand Prix in April which showed that despite the newness of their partnership they already had the makings of a dazzling duo.
