#38 Baia Attolini throttleman Renato Guidi has pinpointed San Benedetto del Tronto as the most memorable round of a 2009 Powerboat P1 season in which he and his team narrowly missed out on the SuperSport title.
Guidi and his team-mate Stefano Acanfora ended the season just 20 points behind eventual champions #43 Seagull Chaudron of Ukraine, despite securing a total of nine podium finishes from their ten races.
"San Benedetto del Tronto was probably the highlight for me personally. We won our first race of the season after a good battle with the Seagull Chaudron boat, and it was also my birthday!
"Siracusa in my opinion was without doubt the best location last season. I was really impressed with the people, passion and beauty of the city and it was a great place to end what was a fantastic year for everyone involved in Powerboat P1."
Despite the disappointment of coming so close to claiming the title last term, Guidi chooses not to dwell on the past: "The chapter is now closed on 2009. It would have been fantastic to be crowned Powerboat P1 SuperSport champions, but in the final part of the season Tedeschi and his team deserved to win."
For 2010 however, fans could see Guidi in a different role: "Sooner or later I have to face the fact that I am getting older, and perhaps next year I may only compete in a handful of races. I quite like the idea of acting as a team manager but will see how I feel in a few months time!"
