POWERBOAT P1 - FOUNTAIN UNVEILS CHAMPIONSHIP 'SPECIAL EDITION'
POWERBOAT P1 - FOUNTAIN UNVEILS CHAMPIONSHIP 'SPECIAL EDITION'

Powerboat P1 Evolution class champion Fountain Worldwide – the international distributor of Fountain Powerboats – will unveil a special edition version of the 42 Lightning model to celebrate the company’s back-to-back title success at this weekend’s Miami International Boat Show.

The 42 Lightning has won more national and world championships than any other V-hull currently on the market and holds the V-hull World Speed Record at 177.883mph. The open-cockpit 42 Lightning ‘Powerboat P1 Championship Special Edition’ is a recreational version of the boat in which pilot James Shepperd and throttleman Craig Wilson secured the 2007 and 2008 Powerboat P1 Evolution class crowns.

It will be equipped with a pair of 8.3-litre V10 Ilmor High Performance Marine 710 engines, each providing over 700bhp – totalling around 100bhp more than the #99 1st4boats.com Fountain Worldwide race boat. It will also be fitted with Arneson Surface Drives and an SCS Crash Box transmission, and comes in Powerboat P1’s distinctive blue, orange and white colour scheme.

“Powerboat enthusiasts purchase Fountain boats for the reputation the company has earned racing in the States for decades,” said Fountain Worldwide president Craig Wilson. “The Powerboat P1 Special Edition will now give them the opportunity to experience a hull and propulsion package that has dominated international boat racing for the past two years. We want to honour that unprecedented accomplishment in a very special way.

“As a concession to the American market, the package includes higher horsepower Ilmor engines than those in our race boat. Performance boaters in the US seem to thrive on the biggest and the best, so we provided what the market demands. We’re a very customer-focused company.”

Both the new ‘Powerboat P1 Special Edition’ and the double title-winning #99 1st4boats.com Fountain Worldwide boat will be on display at the Miami Beach Convention Center for this weekend’s Miami International Boat Show.
