F4SA - OFFSHORE RUN TO CELEBRATE COUGAR 40th YEAR

Leading boat manufacturer Cougar Powerboats will be holding a ‘Cougar Run’ on May 30th to celebrate their 40th anniversary in the marine industry.

The event will be held at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy and will attract a fleet of Cougar boats dating as far back as the late 60’s to present day.

The company originally founded by Clive Curtis and James Beard in 1969 was aptly named after the cougar cat because of the catamaran designed hulls they produced. Cougar’s reputation for cutting edge technology and winning mono and multihull powerboat designs for commercial, military, racing and leisure purposes is still strongly recognized today in the work that they produce.

The company is now run by Clive’s son multiple World Powerboat Champion Steve Curtis and Peter Currington. The pair have continued to develop the success of the business into a newer age of design and quality to meet the ever changing requirements and competition of the marine industry.

One of Cougar’s biggest achievements to date has to be their partnership with the Honda Formula 4-Stroke Powerboat Race series. This one design series of 150hp and 225hp Cougar powerboats has developed over its’ ten year reign into the largest Off-shore race series in the world thanks to the performance and popularity of the Cougar brand.

The ‘Cougar Run’ will muster its’ fleet of classic and modern craft prior to departing from Calshot Spit and continuing down towards Portland via the Needles.

This will be the first time that a show of Cougars has ever been seen and will truly mark the achievements of the company by showing off the excellence that it has produced over the years.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing Cougar’s old and new, and getting together with everyone. Cougar has always been at the focal point of high speed hull design and it will be great to see the evolution of the boats from the early days to our most modern creations all in one place”, said Steve Curtis.

The event will be an opportunity for guests to re-unite with each other and see the selection of Cougar’s in attendance. One thing is certain it is going to be a party to remember.

Guests can expect to enjoy live entertainment, hog roast buffet, awards ceremony and guest speeches. Owners of Cougars and classic powerboats should contact John Donnelly for information on joining the event. Limited spaces are available.
