Hannes Bohinc has revealed the prospect of racing with a “top-class” team was one of the main factors behind his return to the P1 arena.
In an exclusive interview with powerboatp1.com, Bohinc immediately pinpointed the qualities of the Italian OSG Racing Team and new team-mate Giancarlo Cangiano.
“I have always respected Cangiano. He started late but was a quick learner and soon was competing to win. This impressed me greatly. He has a very professional attitude and this is also reflected in his team, OSG Racing.
“He spoke to me about my plans, I explained my situation and he invited me to join him. He is a true gentleman and I look forward to joining him in the boat.”
Bohinc returns to P1 having last raced in 2007. He spent last year competing with his boat, Wettpunkt.com, in the Round Britain. “My appetite for racing at the top level returned.
“P1 is the most competitive racing series in Europe and that is the best challenge for a powerboat racer.”
The 49-year-old Austrian could not conceal his excitement ahead of the new P1 season: “Malta is a particular favourite. The people are very hospitable, I have business commitments there and we always get a warm welcome.”
He continued: “The first event is always special and I hope the final event in Bahrain will be even more special for OSG Racing. Istanbul and Gothenburg promise much and will be interesting places to visit and race.”
