POWERBOAT P1 - OSG POWER HOME TO TAKE MAXIMUM POINTS

#88 SNAV OSG proved to be the model of consistency as the crew of Giancarlo Cangiano and Hannes Bohinc claimed the Endurance race honours in the Evolution class.

#10 Cigarette Smash Poker, fresh from a resounding victory in the yesterday’s Sprint race led for the opening three laps before spinning out at the East end of the course forcing the crew of Luca Formilli Fendi and Matteo Nicolini into retirement.

With #47 Silverline tailing off at the back of the field, it was left to #77 Lucas Oil Budweiser and SNAV OSG to battle it out for top spot. The Lucas Oil Budweiser boat, driven expertly by Joe Sgro, initially pulled away from its rival and led for five laps of the 5.6 nautical mile course.

However, with five laps of the race remaining, SNAV OSG noticably gained ground on its American counterpart and half a lap later took over the leadership when the surpassed hull came to a halt. It was a position the Italian-based team were not to surrender. In an attempt to safeguard their first position, SNAV OSG even took the unusual step of dropping their speed to around 70mph with two laps to go in the knowledge victory was assured.

The untimely retirement of Lucas Oil Budweiser afforded Silverline the opportunity to un-lap itself and ultimately claim second spot on the podium.

#66 Cranefield Wines failed to make the starting line after engine problems encountered in the Sprint race, while the #53 Metamarine Pignolo 53 did not race after its crash in practice prior to Friday’s PowerPole.
