ZAPCATS - WORLDS LARGEST ONE DESIGN POWERBOAT CHAMPIONSHIP IS PLYMOUTH BOUND

July 11th & 12th will see Zapcat Racing the Worlds largest one design powerboat championship head to the Plymouth Sound for rounds 7 & 8 of their National Championship.

Around 30 of the feisty little catamarans will battle it out over two days in 16 heats  racing for the title of Plymouth Zapcat Grand Prix winners.

Amongst the teams will be 3 Royal Marine teams based in Plymouth and two teams from the relentless teams, in All the Gear, No Idea, Zapcat 05 and The Exe Jets, Zapcat 77. With such a strong local contingency, action will be even faster and more furious than before with each team vying for glory at their home event. Pressure will also be on as Team Relentless take on Team Go Commando in the bid to secure the team championship.

This will be the first time the Championship has ever been to Plymouth, famed for being a prime location for powerboat racing for it’s location providing the perfect amphitheatre for racing. So spectators can see all the action as it unfolds before them.

“Plymouth’s always been a favourite location for the bigger Powerboat classes like, Class 1 and the Honda Race series.” explains ZCR event organiser Martin Jupp “So to have the opportunity to bring Zapcat racing to Plymouth is fantastic. Unlike the other bigger powerboat championships that start the race then disappear off out of view, everything in Zapcat Racing will happen just a stones throw from the Hoe so spectators will see all the action. In addition having never raced here before no team will have an advantage over knowing what the conditions will be like they’ll have to be on top of their game and team work will be the key.”

Racing will begin at 12 noon on both days with practice starting at 11, teams will complete over 16 heats each day to secure their place in their divisions final.
