POWERBOAT P1 - NUZZO HAPPY WITH DESERVED PODIUM SPOT

The pilot of #22 Big Sergio has dedicated the podium position he achieved at the Grand Prix of the Sea in Italy to the entire Al and Al team.

Alfredo Nuzzo, alongside team-mate Alfredo Amato, currently sit at the foot of the SuperSport standings in the Powerboat P1 World Championship, but the Italian duo closed the gap on the leading pack after snatching a memorable third spot in the Endurance race in San Benedetto del Tronto - the team's maiden podium position of the 2009 season.

"I must say it was a great satisfaction," says the 42-year-old Neapolitan. "When you are standing on the "step", the effort and commitment given by the entire team is immediately paid back."

Nuzzo admitted that the unsettled conditions suited the Big Sergio hull. "I think that the sea was rougher than in previous races and our boat definitely performs better in such conditions. However, we are professionals and we are used to racing in dangerous conditions.

"I also believe that when the sea is calm it is easier for other teams to achieve a good result as the chances of breaking down are less and the physical work is less demanding."

While he concedes that a Championship tilt is now beyond the reach of Amato and himself, he does believe an improvement could see the team climb the overall standings.

"I am sure that with a bit of good luck, we can definitely occupy third position for pretty much all of the races. In San Benedetto both ourselves and the #28 Blue Shaft boat were forced to retire after the spoke on our propellors broke having hit a tree trunk in the water so I believe our luck must change!

"We are not ready for a win as the boat is not performing at the best but I feel our place is third in the Championship.

Powerboat P1 returns to the shores in August when it visits Scandinavia for the first time and Nuzzo says his team cannot wait for the event. "None of our team has visited Gothenburg before. We are looking to the event very much and it will be a challenging place to race.

"The circuit seems very good with long corners and I think we are going to have plenty of fun."
