ZAPCATS RACE TO EDINBURGH
ZAPCATS RACE TO EDINBURGH

After a 3 year absence Zapcat Racing the World’s largest one design powerboat championship returns to Scottish waters as they head Edinburgh for the Edinburgh Zapcat Grand Prix on the 22nd & 23rd August.

Racing at Leith Docks, Edinburgh will see the National Championship head to another brand new racing location for the series as they battle it out during rounds 11 & 12 of the 14 round championship.

The feisty little catamarans will put on a spectacular show for the people of Edinburgh as they battle it out over two days in 16 heats of racing for the title of Edinburgh Zapcat Grand Prix winners.

Leith Docks will provide a fantastic arena for the spectators to watch all the racing action from. Racing in a confined area the racing will be a fast and furious and it will all be about outright speed for the competitors as they aim for the Grand Prix title and vital championship points.

Reigning Zapcat Champion and Race Director Mick Pritchard is looking forward to the new location, “Edinburgh will be the first really flat water event we’ve had this year every other round so far has been on open water creating some swell, surf or chop for the competitors to compete with.

As racer you get stale racing at the same locations all the time this year we’ve opened the championship up introducing new locations and in that new challenges for the competitors,”

He continued “Leith Docks will provide some very close and fast action, with the racers having to set their boats up for optimum speed and getting the fastest start off the grid possible will be vital, if the wind picks up in the Docks it could create some really interesting conditions as the boats are so light the lighter crews will have to fight to keep the nose of the boat down.

But whatever the weather the racing will be fast, furious and we aim to put on a spectacular show.”

Racing will begin at 12 noon on both days with practice starting at 11, teams will complete over 16 heats each day to secure their place in their divisions final.
