FORMULA 2 POWERBOATS - IVAN BRIGADA CLINCHES FUJAIRAH GRAND PRIX 2009 14 December 2009 (733 reads)
The Italian driver Ivan Brigada, clinched the Fujairah Grand Prix 2009 round title of the UIM F2 World Championship yesterday (December 14th) at the Fujairah International Marine Club.
The race that was held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, and was attended by H.H Sheikh His Highness Sheikh Safe Bin Hamad Bin Safe Al Sharqi Chairman of Fujairah International Marine Club. Ivan Brigada, driving DAC came in the first place recording a time speed of 00:36:39:88 securing 20 points, the Latvian driver Uvis Slakteris driving Mer recorded a time speed of 00:36:41:44 securing another 15 points putting him in the pole position for the race to the world title.

FORMULA 1 POWERBOATS - CAPPELLINI WINS 10TH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 3RD PLACE FINISH 13 December 2009 (381 reads)
Gudio Cappellini battled his way to third place to finish a four year quest to win his 10th World Championship at the Grand Prix of Sharjah, the 16th and final round of the 2009 U.I.M. F1 H2O World Championship for power boating at a rain driven event in front of thousands of race fans along the corniche on the Khaled Lagoon.
Pole sitter Sami Selio of the Mad Croc sponsored boat had a great start and as he tore away from the pontoon the three boat battle for the world championship immediately heated up with unexpected results that saw one-half of the Team Abu Dhabi drivers of Ahmad Al Hameli blow over in a side by side battle with Cappellini for third place heading for the first turn pin. Ahmad blew completely over ending his day in dramatic fashion.

It was a Championship winning partnership between a rookie driver and a former World Champion that came together for the first time in the 2009 season opener in Doha, Qatar, before yesterday’s tragedy brought a cruel and devastating end to their story.
The exuberance of Emirati Mohammad Al Mehairi and experience of Frenchman Jean-Marc Sanchez would go on to secure a pole position, race wins and the European title in their eight races together. An impressive showing and a fourth place in the opening pole position of the season, was surpassed by a third place finish in their first race at the Qatar Grand Prix in April which showed that despite the newness of their partnership they already had the makings of a dazzling duo.

Teams GSS Mermaid and Octane have become the first to sign up for the 2010 Powerboat P1 SuperStock Championship.
Following November’s announcement of the Formula Four Stroke Association’s integration with the Powerboat P1 series, two of the premier teams in the 150-class have quickly to pledge their allegiance. GSS Mermaid driver David Hobson said: “We’re all extremely excited about racing with Powerboat P1 in Europe. I came to Gothenburg last year for the Scandinavian Grand Prix of the Sea and was hugely impressed with the championship’s high levels of professionalism.

Victory Team powerboat drivers Mohammad Al Muhairi and Jean-Marc Sanchez have tragically died following a high speed crash at Mina Seyahi on Friday.
Emirati rookie driver Al Muhairi and French throttleman Sanchez lost control of their powerboat which flipped and overturned during the 2009 Class One UIM/WPPA World Powerboat Championship. A rescue boat rushed to scene and paramedics performed CPR on the pilots before airlifting them to Rashid Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

POWERBOAT P1 - UKRAINIAN CHAMPIONS STEP UP TO EVOLUTION CLASS 10 December 2009 (325 reads)
Reigning Powerboat P1 SuperSport class World Champions, Aaron Ciantar and Viktor Shemchuk, will be making a step up in class in 2010, after Sunday’s announcement in the Times of Malta, that they will be driving in the Evolution class next year.
Speaking at the Chaudron factory in Bulebel, Ciantar told reporters that the Chaudron boatyward had also negotiated a new three-year contract with Ukrainian Spirit, which will see the Maltese firm constructing two new powerboats for the 2010 season. "I am pleased to announce that we have just reached an agreement to extend our relationship with Ukrainian businessman Victor Shemchuk for another three seasons," Ciantar said.

The waters of Fujairah will be the final arena for the battle between Colin Jelf from United Kingdom and Alex Carella from Italy as they drive their boats to the finish line to land this year’s UIM F2 World Champion title. The third and fourth rounds of the UIM F2 World Championship and the Continental Cup will be held at the Fujairah International Marine Club from December 13th to 18th, when reigning World Champion Jelf, a three-time World title winner, will defend his crown against Carella who won the first round in Bahrain.

UIM - WPPA - IOTA RELEASE JOINT STATEMENT 09 December 2009 (350 reads)
Following the previous meetings in Italy, Stresa and Riccione, the UIM, WPPA and IOTA presidents, respectively, Raffaele Chiulli, Saeed Hareb and Gianfranco Venturelli met in Dubai, U.A.E., on 6 December and came to a common agreement regarding the full re-integration of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship in the UIM and under the UIM rules.
The future cooperation will be run through the ‘Offshore Professional Committee’. This committee will include representatives of all involved parties. Ratification by the UIM Council will be requested by 15 January, 2010.

Colin Jelf, the UK team driver grabbed the Port Ghaleb GP title yesterday in the second round of the UIM F2 Powerboat World Championship.
Colin Jelf came in the first place with a speed record of 00:47:59:17, Erik Stark, from the Swedish Getel Racing team driving the boat Molgaard came in the second place with a speed record of 00:48:00:49 and the third place went to Sven Jansson, from the Swedish Jansson Formula Racing team driving the boat Celrici, with a speed record of 00:48:02:64 With these result the winner secured the 20 points of this GP before the next two rounds in UAE. The second place secured 15 points and the third place got the 12 points.
