Well its only a few days until we head to Watergate bay in Newquay for the first event of the king of the surf  and for the second Grand Prix of the season. For the last two years we’ve come runner up in the King of the Surf contest, so we’re hoping to do well this year.

I am so excited to be racing back down at Watergate along with Bournemouth its one of my favorite events as Robbie and I prefer to race in rougher conditions and love to race in the surf.

Racing in the Surf means you have change the way that you drive the boat and you really have to work as a team to pick the best route through the crashing waves. I learnt the hard way in my first year at Watergate not to go at the waves like a cat out of hell when we spectacularly flipped and the sequence was caught on camera. We were both uninjured but our egos took a bit of a battering.

Hopefully there is going to be some good surf conditions it can be a bit disappointing to make the long drive to Newquay and be faced with flat water, but Watergate’s a prime location for surf racing and usually provides us with something to contend with.

We have been out testing a few things in the boat since Bournemouth and we are keen to see how it will perform. Especially as there is talk of a come back for the weekend from the reigning King of the Surf champion so we are hoping to see if all our practice has paid off and can help us to give the him a run for his money.

We are looking forward to expanding on the good start we got in Bournemouth and maintaining our current form.

Look forward to seeing you all on the beach!
