Barry Island was a new venue for Zapcat Racing so we hadn’t raced there before and the Bluesheets boys were all excited to race there as we are with any new venue.
When we arrived conditions looked perfect for rob and I with the onshore breeze picking up some large chop.
We were having trouble getting our starts together and were having to battle our way through the fleet to get to the front but it was possible.
When it got to the final line up we were in second place with Speedy Hire on the inside in pole position.
Neil and Nazz in Rana Park had been quick off their starts most of the day and they were on the opposite side of the grid so we new we would need to get a good start, but this was not to be. Off the start we were in third and getting the boat settled was taking too long I knew we could catch up to speedy but was being held up in dirty water which was allowing Boat 25 to extend their lead.
At the end of the final we’d managed to move up to take second place but were told by the OOD we’d been disqualified because of a suspected nudging incident with Team Speedy Hire. It was a good battle and well done to Darren and Neil for beating us.
The following day we set out to race a new round and put Saturday behind us. We spoke nicely to our engine and got off to a flying start in every heat combating our previous days issues with starts.
The boat was running perfect floating right on the edge all day long. We got out into the final and had a brilliant start taking the lead all the way to the end with a brilliant finish at a brilliant event.
The next event is up north and should be brilliant as it’s another new venue. We are setting out to win the whole weekend as this will add to the overall points that will ensure us securing the championship which I am so excited about.
