We hit the beach on Friday for the first leg of the finals, The surf was around 3-4 foot at the best of the swell and we could tell that it was going to be pretty unpredictable for the whole 2 days racing. Dan and I had a great days racing on Friday. We found the speed we had been looking for all season and the boat was on top form. We fought through the surf harder than we had ever done and it paid off with us taking 2nd place in Div 2 gaining a silver medal and a very valuable 65 points. Craig and Robbie (Bluesheets I) also had a fantastic day securing the title of Championship leaders and became the National Championship Champions for 2009. A big well done to them guys.
As Saturday came along and we were preparing for the final day of the finals, Dan and I (Bluesheets II) had a good start in the first 2 heats of the day,There was only a 26 point gap at the beginning of Sat and Team lost buoys had both their team boats in Div 1,whereas Bluesheets Racing had 1 boat in Div 1 and 1 in Div 2. We knew that we (Bluesheets II) pretty much had to reach the podium if we were to stand a chance of securing the Team Championship. In our 3rd heat, we managed to pull ourselves into 1st place when we were hit by a rouge wave barrel rolling us. Dan and I both left the boat leaving it upside down. This had us DQ'd. The end of the heats came and we discovered that Dan and I had not made the Final. But also Randal and Payne from Team Lost Buoys hadn't made the finals and so left the Team Championship in the hands of Craig and Robbie to secure. Bluesheets I had won their final taking King of the Surf, Championship Champions and Team Champions. We now look forward to next years Racing and would like to thank everyone that has supported us through this season. We would like to take the opportunity to give a huge thanks to James from Bluesheets for all his support this year and hope we have another great years racing next year for Bluesheets.
