"After a hugely successful 2009 season being crowned National, King of Surf, and Team Champions, winning all bar one of the rounds, and starting off the season 14 races unbeaten! The 2010 season already has a lot to live up to. One of the championships that was not competed for in 2009 was the home nations championship which Blue Sheets 1 will be keeping an eye on for 2010.
The race venues are being announced thick and fast, with a mix of new and old venues being put on the calendar. Blue Sheets 1 have always been competitive in surf, and for the first time last season consistent on the flat water as well, so all venues are being welcomed to mix the 2010 season up, and to really test all the teams. A season opener on the legendary surf beach of Fistral in Newquay awaits in April, and the challenge has been eagerly anticipated by the Blue Sheets boys. The 2010 calender looks to mix the racing up, competing all over the UK, and Northern Island for the first time since the 2005 season, which even though co-pilot Craig Davis competed was unable to attend, and is eagerly looking forward to testing his skills in new water.
The 2010 season has brought about a new boat for the Blue Sheet boys, maintaining the eye catching Zapcat motif, but going for a black boat, and orange décor. Definitely an eye catching design, and a boat to watch out for on the beach for the new season. With the success that was achieved with a full winters training last season, even though 2010 has been quiet, it's not to say the team has taken its eye off the prize!
The boys will be racing in the number 1 boat for 2010, and are planning to make it as difficult as possible for anyone to take it away from them. A slight change in the team has also occurred with Naomi stepping in to Nathan's shoes from last year in Blue Sheets 2, who have worked tirelessly over the winter to aim to finish closer to Blue Sheets 1 than they did last year. Blue Sheets 2 have certainly got an eye catching design lined up for the first race in Newqauy!
Rob Martin, co-pilot for Blue Sheets 1 has said "The 2010 season can't come quick enough for us, we finished on such a high last year at Watergate, determined to win on the last day even after securing the National Championship, and we're looking to carry this mentality on in 2010, we learnt how to win in 2009, and we aim to show we haven't lost it over the winter!! We are all set up, and ready to compete this year, and Fistral just can't come quick enough for us."
Craig is also looking forward to the first race of the season at Fistral beach, and has been working hard on the boat during the winter to make sure it's as reliant and consistent as 2009, and is particularly looking forward to the possible choppier conditions up in Aberdeen, which will be the first time the Zapcats have been that far North.
Blue Sheets 1 would also like to say a big thank you for all their support over the winter, the sponsors for continuing their sponsorship into 2010, and the addition of some very welcomed new ones, who will be announced shortly.
We hope you look forward to following us in 2010.
