The second round of the Welsh leg from the 2010 National Zapcat Championship takes us to Barry Island, a new venue last year, and proved very popular with the racers with a lovely beach, great spectator vantage points, and a mix of racing conditions with hopefully beach starts also making a return for the teams.

Barry Island is situated in a tucked away cove from the seven estuary, and provides a huge tidal range which often churns up the water for great exciting racing conditions. This year also offers sky television footage to be aired later in the year providing great exposure for the series.

Blue Sheets had a very successful weekends racing in North Wales a fortnight ago at Prestatyn, and are looking forward to another highly contested weekend at Barry. All the teams know that they are going to have to be on top form to maintain their team, and national championship leads from some very competitive teams.

Bladerun have been performing very well all season pushing Blue Sheets 1 through every race, and are still very much in the championship race especially after discards favouring their slightly stuttered start.

Blue Sheets 2 have had a great start to the season with some good results, making it up to division 1 to aid the Blue Sheets team championship push although they have been mixing it up with the big boys and learnt some lessons very quickly; that division 1 boats don’t yield their lines! While Blue Sheets 3 will be meeting a host of new and returning teams at Barry with what looks like the biggest fleet of the season so far turning up, reinforcing the racers opinions of Barry from last year.

Craig from Blue Sheets has said “I can’t wait to get back to Barry and race again; it was a brilliant race venue, and an environment to test myself against. Last year I received a tight decision disqualifying me from the Saturday final, and was the only rounds racing I missed out on the top prize, so I’ve got added motivation to go out and win it this year.

We will also hopefully have a return of beach starts, so the Gill wetsuits will be back out again after a great debut in Prestatyn. They are one the best wetsuits I’ve had the pleasure to wear, the boys at Gill have been supporting us for the first time this year, and its made racing much more comfortable, and allowed me to perform at my best with no restrictions in movement.  They are an awesome piece of kit all racers should own.”

Practice kicks off at 11am on Saturday being streamed live over the internet as normal, and being filmed by Sky for later in the year.

The Championship can also be followed closely on the Blue Sheets website, as well as team blogs and some secrets to racing success on the race forum.
